A Foreword
Welcome to the Alpha Rho Alumni Association of Chi Psi Fraternity website. This is the place to stay in touch and learn about the exciting activities and events taking place at the Lodge, sponsored by either the undergraduates or alumni.
The Alpha Rho Alumni Association (APAA) is a 501(c)(7) non-profit corporation that owns and maintains The Alpha Rho Lodge (the house) and property. The APAA collects the room license, meal plan, and all other fees from the active Brotherhood and has the highest level of interaction with them on an ongoing basis. From a financial standpoint, the APAA pays for the taxes, insurance, and maintenance of the Lodge, as well as being responsible for all aspects of the upkeep of The Lodge. The APAA provides lunches and dinners to the Brotherhood using a food service company that utilizes our kitchen with a dedicated in-house chef. We also contract with a cleaning company to make sure the Lodge is always looking its best. Our sole sources of revenue to pay for these necessary operational expenses are the fees collected from the active Brotherhood and the generous donations from our many dedicated Alpha Rho alumni.
The Association completed a $1.7MM major renovation of the Lodge in 2019. This campaign included gutting the inside of the Lodge to replace wiring and piping, redoing all the study rooms, converting the 3rd floor “Dorms” into study rooms, replacing the 2nd floor windows, adding an internal staircase on the Bartlett Street side, upgrading the Alumni Advisor’s apartment, and adding an elevator to facilitate Brothers with disabilities. Further activities in the subsequent summers included painting the outside of the Lodge, replacing the kitchen floor to facilitate cleaning and draining, replacing the first and third floor windows, replacing the back patio to mitigate leaking into the basement, replacing and upgrading the fencing around the property, and upgrading the outside security cameras. Work was also done in the meeting room to repair and repaint the walls and ceiling, take care of mold remediation in the display cases, replace the lighting, and add ventilation.
In addition, in 2024, we entered into an agreement with a general contractor to perform preventative maintenance continuously on the Lodge and grounds.

A Thing of Spirit
"Keeping ever before us the desire to be loyal to our Alma Mater and our Fraternity, the desire to develop the best that is in us but at the same time submerge our own interests in the interests of others, and the desire to be an active man in college, an affectionate and wise husband in the home, a tireless and good humored bread winner, and a clean sportsman in all recreations, we will slowly approach not only the ideal Chi Psi but the ideal citizen and American."
- Roger M. Hawthorne, Bowdoin 1928
A Tribute To Fellowship
Alpha Rho Night, August 11, 1989 was also the occasion for a surprise presentation to H.G. 'Bones' Lundberg, P 1924. Herbert Dunmeyer, Rho 1954, the moving spirit of the Alumni Association Committee, made the presentation of an original sculpture depicting Bones with his hands on the shoulders of every Brother whose life he had touched. Sitting in with Bones, alongside the sculpture is Thomas Storr, #1, P 1990.
